MapIE Data Catalogue

The MapIE Data Catalogue gathers metadata from student-level longitudinal datasets on learning outcomes and educational inequalities in Nordic countries (Finland, Sweden, Norway) and Central European countries (Germany, Hungary, Luxembourg). The MapIE Data Catalogue is a shared resource that makes relevant longitudinal data on educational inequalities more visible and accessible.

The MapIE Data Catalogue provides information about data accessibility. Whenever possible, it links to the original data repositories or to the data owner’s website, serving as a gateway that helps users discover and access relevant datasets.

This is the first version of the MapIE Data Catalogue. A completed version will be launched by February 2027.

Data Mapping

The MapIE Data Catalogue contains descriptions of student-level longitudinal dataset and registries selected through a well-defined, curated mapping process based on criteria outlined in the MapIE – Framework for Data Mapping (D3.1). Figure 1 briefly outlines the dataset inclusion criteria. The full description of the inclusion criteria can be found from the Deliverable 3.1 MapIE – Framework for Data Mapping.

The metadata and descriptions of the datasets are gathered from partner countries (Finland, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Hungary and Luxembourg) through a MapIE Data Mapping Form. The first phase of data mapping began in October 2025 and continued until the publication of the first version of the MapIE Data Catalogue in February 2026.

The second phase of data mapping will continue after the release, focusing on additional dataset descriptions and refinements of the already gathered descriptions. The final version of the MapIE Data Catalogue will be published in February 2027. The data mapping will be carried out in each country under the guidance of the project’s partner countries. The mapping coordinators in the partner countries will centrally distribute the link to the mapping form to parties that potentially possess relevant data.

If you have a relevant longitudinal dataset from some of these countries, and you have not received a request from us to participate in data mapping, please send us email to mapie-project@tuni.fi.

If you notice an error in the description of an existing dataset or would like to supplement your research group’s data description, please contact mapie-project@tuni.fi.
