Educational inequalities are a growing concern across Europe. As societies undergo significant transformations, such as demographic shifts, economic changes, technological advancements, and increasing migration, ensuring equal access to quality education becomes more critical than ever. Due to these rapid changes, it is critical to look at educational inequalities across different educational contexts and models to understand how those contexts shape the development of inequalities and to identify the existing mechanisms that help compensate for them.

This open seminar, organized as part of the Horizon Europe MapIE project by the Research Centre on Education, Assessment, and Learning (REAL, Tampere University), invites participants to explore how educational inequalities manifest in Central European and Nordic countries that fundamentally differ in their educational models. The event will include an invited keynote talk, project presentations from the MapIE team and other related Horizon Europe projects on how they complement each other in addressing educational inequalities from different perspectives, and a panel discussion between leading international and national researchers in the field of educational assessment, representatives of the work life sector (Finnish teacher’s trade union OAJ),  and policymakers from the Finland’s Ministry of Education and Culture. By bringing together different stakeholders and experts, this seminar aims to create a platform for dialogue and knowledge-sharing that bridges local and international perspectives. Join us for a day full of insightful discussions!
